We are thrilled to be able to announce the winners of our Outstanding Penwith at Night Photo Competition 2020.

For the contest we were looking for photographs that capture the beauty and wonder of the West Penwith section of the Cornwall AONB at night. And our entrants did not disappoint! We had a very strong selection of entries, which were assessed by our three judges. As well as first, second and third places they also selected two highly commended and three commended entries.

The winning entry is pictured right, and is of Levant Mine by Duncan Scobie.

Second Prize was of the Milky Way over Botallack by Michael Lovell, and third place was Stargazing at Lanyon Quoit by Su Bayfield.

Outstanding Penwith at Night gallery

Carolyn Kennett, one of the judges for the contest, said "Judging the Dark Skies photography contest was a real pleasure. The standard of the entered photos was incredibly high and it was wonderful to see Penwith’s landscape and monuments under night sky conditions. Myself and the other two judges found it relatively easy to choose first place, we all enjoyed the way the Milky Way came from the chimney of the mine giving a sense of movement in what would otherwise be a quiet scene. The remaining places were much harder to decide, as there were such high-quality images submitted. We hope you like our final choices as much as we enjoyed choosing them."
