Artists: Amanda Richardson and Sara Bevan
Fellow artist Sara Bevan and I are very excited to have been awarded the commission to create artworks documenting and celebrating a year in a Cornish Hedge.

This is a collaboration in which we plan to visit the location together to sketch and generally collect visual material. Each artist will then create separate finished pieces of art at each season, inspired by the hedge. Our art offers a breadth of styles and mediums that we hope will provide a rich interpretation of this place through art.

Both Sara and I live and work in the far west of Cornwall and our art is focussed on landscape and the natural world. Cornish hedges have featured large in our art and so this project is a really exciting one. We chose a hedge in a farming hamlet within sight of the Land's End. The land has been farmed by generations of the same family, with an approach to farming that allows wildlife to flourish, as do an exceptional variety of wild flowers. On our visits to the hedge a family of Choughs have been present on the cliffs just below, with their calls keeping us company as we painted.

We will be sharing what we see and what we create on social media as well as future blogs, but we began sketching the hedge many weeks before being awarded the commission, so this first blog is a catch up of our art so far. We hope you will come along for the journey, exploring this fascinating Penwith Hedge through art.
