Outputs
Supporting owners in the use of redundant farm buildings with heritage value
Description
Drehevyansow y’n Tirwedh or Buildings in the Landscape had two related objectives – to facilitate the restoration, repair or conversion of redundant buildings which have a historical, cultural and/or landscape value, and to enable these buildings to be maintained and enhanced; and to provide a beneficial economic impact on existing farming units in Penwith.
While no capital funding was available, the funding did cover the stages of planning and building regulations necessary to enable the delivery of the proposals, with property owners providing 20% match funding. No end use was excluded, but the proposed re-use must have respect the qualities of the building(s) and their contribution to the historic and natural landscape character of the area, the majority of which is covered by the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and/or World Heritage Site designations. One successful project was the conversion of a redundant barn at Chytodden Farm into accommodation for adults with learning disabilities.
Owners were be offered support and financial help to obtain the necessary consents. Associated costs may have included:
- Planning and Building Regulations fees and plans
- Bat and Barn Owl surveys
- Structural Reports
- Heritage Statements
- Mining and Contamination reports
The project was run by a Project Officer, James Evans.
